Fri 29 Oct 10: Plaques for the Angels Remembrance Garden
Following discussions with parents over the past months, one of the main issues raised is the need to be able to individually mark their child’s resting place.
The Trust has agreed that if any permanent marking is to be allowed (other than headstones in place at post-1987 graves) then it must be officially approved by the Trust, very discreet in size and style, uniform in type and capable of carrying an inscription.
We have spent the last few months sourcing, with an Irish foundry, a selection of plaques that would be very suitable to achieve the above criteria and families’ collective aims.
The general concensus initially was that the plaques were too small. Therefore, we have spent time re-designing and enlarging these plaques a selection of which can be seen below. To date the Teddy Bear Plaque and the Heart Plaque have been selected by parents as being the most appropriate marker.
We are now asking that you contact our office in Glasnevin (01) 8826500 to make an appointment to discuss the markers in more detail regarding the costs and the inscription. We would hope, subject to demand, that the plaques will be available before Blessing of Remembrance & Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in association with A Little Lifetime Foundation in Glasnevin Cemetery at the New Angles Graves on December 12th 2010.
Due to attention given to the above, the works on the all sections post 1987 (i.e. those with headstones), has been delayed.
Landscaping works will now begin (weather permitting) initially on the row nearest to the restored section and thereafter subsequent rows. All works to be completed by the end of March 2011. All items on these plots should be removed to accomodate the restoration works. We appreciate your assitance and co-operation.
