F.A.Q.

Genealogy Searches and Images

Getting started - Have you got an Account with SignIn?

You only require a Signin should you wish to purchase record details whereas browsing the Results Grid is Free Access. If you don't already have an Account with Signin, just click here to create your account. If you have forgotten your signin password, click here and we will email it to you.

To start a search, on the Genealogy Homepage, you will be asked to enter the First name, Surname and date of death of the person who’s records you are looking for. If the record is found, it will be displayed in the Results Grid. You can then select the relevant record on Grid for releasing to your account in standard or extended form (depending if there are more burials within the same grave). You will be informed of the cost of the selected record purchase and will be asked for you credit/debit card details through your shopping basket. Once the order is confirmed you will be presented with a link to view the record. You can also topup your account by using the TopUp feature after you are signed in.

You can also purchase Search Credit Vouchers from Glasnevin Museum's reception if you wish to send this as a Gift to someone else.

Q. No results are returned when using an address line in the search criteria?

A. The rule is "only enter part of the address that you know if correct", leaving out any combinations of "street", "road" or "rd" abbreviations as you might do a search based on "Dorset Road", whereas this record might be "Dorset Street" in our database, so by doing a search based on word "Dorset" only, results will appear.

Q. Still no records?

A. Taking into account above Hint & Tips with still no results, extend the number of years before and after year as starting point within the Search Criteria

Q. I have purchased more than one record and after payment, I can only see last record?

A. The link after Credit Card Purchase will always show most recent search but to view details on other records purchased, you must SignIn (see also details above on using account) with credentials emailed to you and when you re-do search, you will be see a "View Purchased record" link in the Results Grid

Q. I have purchased and while printing the record, my printer crashed - can I review the record?

A. In order to re-view record you must SignIn (see also details above on using account) with credentials emailed to you and when you re-do search, you will be see a "View Purchased record" link in the Results Grid

Q. I have purchased an Extended Search, but there's no Book Extract image for one of the individuals in same grave?

A. In an Extended Search, you can choose to purchase the Book Extract image for at least one of the individuals in same grave and the 2 credits charge is irrespective of how many images are available, , while in an extended search, the Book Extract image option might relate to the other people buried in same grave. If you wish to check to see whether the image available is for the person in the Results Grid, choose "Standard" Tickbox and then tick "Show Image" - subsequently change back to selecting "Extended" and "Show Image" tickboxes if you wish to see all individuals in same grave.

Q. Sometimes I can’t see either the First or Last Name box in Search Section or need to check your browser settings?

A. This can be resolved by forcing your Internet Explorer to always refresh the page by setting your Internet Explorer Browser History Settings to “Every Time I visit the Web Page”. For more information on this, please refer to second section in this download

Book Extract Image Availability

Book Images, where available, can now be viewed by ticking the Optional "Show Image" while doing a "Standard" or "Extended" Search in our Genealogy Section. These Book Extracts have been generated as part of our current Register Digitization process where we are digitizing the Register Records that were not yet entered in our database. We therefore do not have Book Extracts available for records that were already in our database prior Digitization process. The Digitization process mainly involves any records for prior 1920. Best way to see whether we have book extracts available for anyone in a same grave grave is to do a Search and where available, the Results Grid will offer a "Show Image" tickbox.

When doing a search in the Genealogy Section, you will be asked to choose between a "Standard" or "Extended" Search (see info on main Genealogy Section page). At this stage viewing the Book Extract Image is optional. This is not included automatically in the "Standard" or "Extended" Search, so if you wish to load the ViewOnly Book Extract onto your Genealogy Account through our site, please ensure to tick the "Show Image" Tickbox ticked underneath the "Standard" or "Extended" Search tickboxes when viewing the Genealogy Results Grid.

In an Extended Search, you can choose to purchase the Book Extract image for at least one of the individuals in same grave and the 2 credits charge is irrespective of how many images are available, while in an extended search, the Book Extract image option might relate to the other people buried in same grave. If you wish to check to see whether the image available is for the person in the Results Grid, choose "Standard" Tickbox and then tick "Show Image" - subsequently change back to selecting "Extended" and "Show Image" tickboxes if you wish to see all individuals in same grave.

Showing the Image will offer on most books additional information such as Cause of Death or Occupation as this is not included the TextOnly "Standard" / "Extended" Search. Note that on some older Books, Cause of Death or Occupation were not recorded.

Please click on samples below to view in full size and use the Horizontal / Vertical scrollbars to view full image and close the popup. Note that the second landscape sample has been shortened for purpose of this page whereas when loaded onto your account, it will be full width of book with additional columns.

Reporting Genealogy Transcription Errors

For Pre 1900, all records have been digitized over last six months. Having viewed some of the images, users will no doubt have realised the scale of work involved in digitising these Glasnevin Cemetery Registers. In some cases, difficult to read handwriting could cause transcription errors.
Should you come across such transcription errors, please do not hesitate to contact us using our Online Enquiry section, with details on how record should be amended in your opinion. If you have any supporting documents, you can also send these to genealogy@glasnevintrust.ie. These amendments will be validated and processed to then update our records online accordingly, including records that have been added to genealogy accounts.
Please note that no refunds for Online records can be processed in the case of transcription errors. Once purchased, records can still be updated if appropriate as above’s outlined feedback process.
